At the end of the college basketball season, the University of North Carolina got some great news in that their leading scorer, P.J. Hairston, was going to stay with the team as opposed to entering the 2013 NBA Draft. But on June 5, the school’s excitement level changed when Hairston was arrested at a traffic stop with a drug charge. He is now facing possible punishments from the school and the team
UNC Head Coach Roy Williams had this to say about his talks with P.J. Hairston,
P.J. and I have had several discussions already and he knows he has made serious mistakes and there will be serious consequences as a result.
It is unclear at this time what those consequences will be, and if they will be as serious as Williams says they will be. Some people are speculating that one of the more plausible consequences would be a suspension.
An article on ESPN.com discussed what was ahead for Hairston,
Hairston faces an August court hearing and isn’t enrolled in summer school. The team is in the offseason so Williams says he will wait “until the process is complete” to decide on the punishment.
And if the drug charge wasn’t enough, the article also mentions that Hairston was reported twice with driving cars that were linked to a convicted felon.
