Geno Smith: No Hard Feelings Towards Mark Sanchez (Video)
By Mike Dyce
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez invited his teammates to his “Jets West” camp in Mission Viejo, California. But Geno Smith didn’t attend, which Sanchez said was “no big deal.”
The two are entrenched in a quarterback competition for the starting job. And it has been Mark Sanchez who has been more vocal to this point. But despite Sanchez’s public comments stating his confidence that he’ll be the starting quarterback, Geno Smith says there are no hard feelings between the two.
“Me and Mark are cool. There’s no hard feelings or anything,” Smith told the OchoCinco News Network. “He’s up there getting some work with the guys, I’m down here getting work, some guys are going to be down here today. It’s just been good.
“I’m taking this competition very seriously, preparing myself to be a starter as I’ve said all along. And I think the media, they’re doing their jobs. They gotta create a hot story, they gotta keep the fans interested, so they’re going to put whatever they want out there.”
Nevertheless despite how confident Mark Sanchez is, Geno Smith could come in and steal the show in the pre-season. We saw Alex Smith lose his job (after taking the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC Championship game) to a mobile quarterback with a strong arm named Colin Kaepernick. Geno Smith was once considered the favorite to be the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
