You can tell that football is just around the corner, because here we are in mid-June with the 2013 SEC Media Days about to kick in to full swing. The event kicked off todayHyatt Regency Birmingham – The Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama and Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp was one of the first to take center stage.
Of course, media members had to ask Muschamp about Ohio State coach Urban Meyer reportedly turning in Florida to the NCAA for a secondary recruiting violation and Muschamp had to respond by taking a shot at the Buckeyes.
“We appreciate our friends from Ohio making sure we follow NCAA rules,” Muschamp said. “They certainly know something about NCAA rules.”
While Muschamp’s jab doesn’t take a shot at Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes, it is a clear reference to Tattoo-gate and the sanctions that came down as a result of Jim Tressel’s tenure with Ohio State.
It’s probably not the last shot we will hear during the media days, but it is a great way to get things started.
SEC Media Days continue through Thursday with some of the biggest stars in college football’s top conference answering all of the questions the media is preparing to throw at them.
This is just the beginning.
The circus will be in full swing tomorrow whenever Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel takes center stage.
