A Spanish announcer for the Arizona Diamondbacks has been suspended after threatening to stab his wife with a knife.
The Associated Press reports that documents were released on Wednesday for Miguel Perez Quintana, who has called Diamondbacks games for 16 seasons. The broadcaster could be charged for “aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal damage.”
Details of the event are pretty gruesome. Apparently the violence started because Quintana’s wife was looking through his cellphone.
Phoenix police say they were called to Quintana’s home Monday night and found his wife with blood on her legs and cuts on her left hand.
A probable cause statement says Karoly Quintana told police she and her husband were arguing about him going through her cellphone when he allegedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and threatened to kill her.
There’s no history of violence for Quintana before the incident. The Diamondbacks organization has stated that he won’t be back until the court decides his fate. Looking at the 53-year-old’s mugshots, it appears that his broadcasting days could be over.
