Martell Webster Says Washington Wizards Will Make Playoffs

I’m not really one to harp on a player who says their team will make the playoffs for the upcoming season. Realistic or not, what else are they supposed to say? We’re playing for the 9th seed?

Whatever the case might be, Martell Webster of the Washington Wizards just didn’t declare that his team will be making the playoffs, but that their goal is the fifth seed.

Per Webster, via CBS DC:

“Expectation-wise, we expected to win 30-plus games last year. That was our goal,” Webster said.

“This season is like, our expectations are, we ARE getting to the playoffs,” he said, adding they’ve set their sights as high as the five-seed in the Eastern Conference.

Confident as Webster might be in his own talent, much of the Wizards success (or lack of) will come from the health of John Wall.

Going off the standings this year, the Wizards would need about a fifteen game turnaround to claim the 5th seed – which isn’t likely. That said, it’s completely within reason to suggest the Wizards making the playoffs as the Milwaukee Bucks easily squeaked in as the 8th seed with a 38-44 record this past season.
