How this is news, I don’t know but someone asked it, so we write it.

The Green Bay Packers will not retire Brett Favre’s number in 2013. This isn’t all too surprising seeing as just 10 days ago he said that the organization would likely retire his number prior to his induction into the Hall of Fame. That gives them till 2016 assuming he is a first ballot entrant.

“The timing has to be right for both Brett and the organization,” Packer CEO Mark Murphy said, 10 days ago. “Brett will be a first ballot Hall of Famer in 2016, and we would like to retire his number prior to his induction.”

Realistically we could expect 2015, all the extra time in the world for the wounds in the Packers/Favre relationship to heal. But despite these comments just 10 days ago, some one asked Murphy if we could expect it this season.

“I don’t anticipate that, no,” Murphy said, per the Associated Press.

Since they clearly didn’t listen 10 days ago, Murphy felt the need to repeat himself.

“We’re definitely going to retire his number. I really feel strongly that he deserves it,” Murphy said. “(But) the timing has to be right.”

“I can’t tell you exactly what time might be right,” Murphy said, according to the AP. “But I am optimistic that you will see it.”
