Relief pitchers in the MLB are extremely volatile. One year, a reliever could be incredible, while they are mediocre the next. Due to the limited number of innings that relievers pitch, even the smallest of blowups affects their stats considerably. The most valuable relievers are the ones that can continually produce, and be counted on to produce.

Every season, there is an elite group of relievers that stands tall above the rest. This season is no different, as I have identified 5 relievers who are the best at what they do. For this, I will take several factors into account- ERA, strikeout rate, WHIP, FIP (fielding independent pitching), xFIP (adjusted fielding independent pitching), and save percentage. I will also take into account a reliever’s career numbers, although 2013 will be the main focus. Without further ado, here are the top 5 relievers in baseball right now.
