The Toronto Raptors had no desire to keep Marcus Camby when he was acquired from the New York Knicks earlier this offseason and Marcus Camby had no desire to play for the Toronto Raptors.
Both sides will get their wish as the Raptors officially bought out Camby this afternoon.
Per the Toronto Raptors media Twitter:
#Raptors have agreed to a buyout with Marcus Camby and placed him on waivers.
Now 39 years of age, Camby is hoping to latch onto a contender.
The likely scenarios will present themselves – say like the Miami Heat, but even signing for the veteran minimum may scare teams away who have elevated luxury tax payments.
Before the Knicks traded Camby, the former UMass product expressed frustration with his lack of offensive opportunities and hinted he wanted to become more involved in the offensive flow of the team, something interested teams may want to note.
Teams who miss out on the Greg Oden sweepstakes and are in need of a bench big, like the aforementioned Heat and potentially Dallas Mavericks should have interested in the aging shot blocker.
