After the Detroit Pistons signed Josh Smith, the writing was on the wall for Jason Maxiell who has spent all eight seasons of his NBA career in Detroit.
Now looking for a new home, Maxiell has decided to settle on the Orlando Magic where he will provide big man depth and leadership to the young Magic squad.
Per Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski:
After eight seasons with the Detroit Pistons, free-agent forward Jason Maxiell has agreed to a two-year, $5 million deal with the Orlando Magic, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The former Cincinnati Bearcat hasn’t ever been much more than a reserve but ended up averaging the most minutes of his career this past season at nearly 23 minutes per game.
Outside of Maxiell’s rookie season (where he played extremely sparingly), Maxiell has never held a negative offensive or defensive win share and should be a solid and effective addition to the Orlando Magic’s bench.
Last season, Maxiell averaged nearly 7 points, 6 rebounds a over a block per game.
