Elena Delle Donne has only been in the WNBA for a few months, but she sure is leaving an impression early. When the All-Star votes were announced on Thursday Night, the 2nd overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft was shocked to hear that she had the most fan votes.
The star from the Chicago Sky received 35,646 total votes, which was just about 2,000 more than LA Sparks’ Candace Parker. Here’s what Delle Donne said when she heard the news that she had the most votes,
I’m speechless about it. It’s incredible to come in as a rookie and know I have that many fans is so humbling and awesome. I’ll try to continue to do them proud.
And it’s to no surprise that the number 1 overall pick, Brittney Griner, was also selected to be an All-Star. This All-Star game will make WNBA History as the only AS game to showcase two rookies starting the game from the same class.
For the third time in WNBA All-Star history, the big game will be played in Connecticut at the Mohegan Sun, on July 27.
