Yesterday Brian Urlacher’s comments came as quite a shock to Chicago Bear fans. The former face of the Bears franchise said essentially that he doesn’t want the Bears to win the Super Bowl, and he’d be upset if they did.

“They better not win a championship without me because I’ll be really pissed,” Urlacher said.

As a former friend and teammate, you might be upset with your old chum wishing you didn’t succeed, but Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was more understanding.

“I don’t blame him, I think if I had just retired, I’d probably be in the similar boat,” Cutler said, via Scott Krinch of CSNChicago.com. “You miss the game, you obviously wish everyone well, if your team does go the distance you wish you were right there with him. I can’t blame him.”

It is true, it’d be hard to watch. Imagine if Ray Lewis had retired right before the Ravens Super Bowl run last year. I bet he’d be pissed, but he’d also already have a Super Bowl ring, Urlacher doesn’t.

Urlacher also feels a little forced into retirement after the Chicago Bears let him go. If it were up to Urlacher he’d be getting ready for training camp like everyone else.
