The Cleveland Indians Won’t Part With Lonnie Chisenhall

According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cleveland Indians declined to trade 3rd baseman Lonnie Chisenhall to the Chicago Cubs for right handed pitcher Matt Garza.

This is a sign that the Chicago Cubs are serious about trading Matt Garza before his next start, which is on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

It makes sense that the Cubs would want to pick up a major league ready 3rd baseman, as Luis Valbuena is a possible trade candidate as the Chicago Cubs continue to play the sellers role.

Chisenhall would have been an awesome pick up for the team, but didn’t think it was worth trading for a starter who has had quality starts in only 2 and 1/2 months this season.

Also according to Paul Hoynes, the Texas Rangers are close to acquiring the right handed pitcher from the Chicago Cubs. It seems like the Rangers have been a destination for former Cubs players in the past few years, being Ryan Dempster, Giovanni Soto, Andres Blanco and Jeff Baker and next up could be Matt Garza.
