Houston Astros rookie Brandon Barnes hit for the cycle yesterday. He was a perfect 5-5 and had two RBI as well as crossing the plate twice himself. It was the 8th cycle in Astros’ history.
He started off with a solo home run to left-center in the second inning. It gave the Astros a 1-0 lead.
In the 4th he hit a deep fly to right-center in the gap and hit a triple, driving in a run as well.
He followed that up with a single. In the 8th inning he hit one down the right field foul line, and it took a unfavorable bounce. Barnes seemed determined to get the cycle though, and he went for it when he probably shouldn’t have. He slid into second in a close one and was called safe.
When the Astros don’t usually have bright spots in their baseball season, this was a bright spot for them. They currently sit in last place in the AL West as well as all of baseball, they’re 10 games behind fourth place Seattle in the division.
