UFC light-heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira is one of the few fighters in the mix at the top of the organizations 205-pound division and he is prepared to take the next step and fight for the title. Teixeira is on a 19-fight win streak that began in 2005 and his next fight will be on September 4 against Ryan Bader in Brazil.
If Teixeira is able to add another tally in the win column, he will be very deserving for a crack at the title and when that opportunity comes he will be ready.
“When I said I didn’t think I had done enough to earn a title shot, it wasn’t because of my confidence or my skills,” Teixeira said, via MMAjunkie.com. “When I said that, it’s because I’m new in the company. But I think I have the skills to go over there today and fight for the title and fight Jon Jones.
“My skills and my confidence, I’m ready to fight for the title tomorrow,” Teixeira said. “I’m ready to get the title. If Gustafsson gets hurt – and I hope he doesn’t, I don’t want that for anybody – but I’m always there. If I don’t get hurt in the Ryan Bader fight, I’ll fight Jon Jones.”
Teixeira has been spectacular since joining the organization with a lot of hype and the fans are ready to see the Brazilian fighter jump to the next level.
A fight between Teixeira and Jones may not be a huge pay-per view draw because Teixeira is still gaining recognition from the casual fans, but his aggressive style would be an exciting stylistic match up if he got a crack at the champ.
