The Cuban pitching sensation is continuing to receive praise from scouts, and it seems that more teams are backing out as his stock gets higher. Does that mean the Los Angeles Dodgers, who apparently will spend anything, are defaulted as the favorite to sign Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez?
Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reported earlier today that Gonzalez’s list of teams is down to five thanks to his price being driven up, but did not make any guesses on what teams they were. On Saturday night, it was reported that the Dodgers could sign the right-hander to $50 million over five years.
MLB Trade Rumors has a list of all the teams that were interested in Gonzalez. The Minnesota Twins and Miami Marlins are crossed off because they can’t afford him, and reports say the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Angels aren’t interested.
That means the pitcher’s team list is down to this: Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, Atlanta Braves, and New York Yankees.
It’s doubtful that the Cubs or Blue Jays will sign. Outside of the Dodgers, that would leave the Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies, and Braves as candidates.
