MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees want Alfonso Soriano from Cubs?

The New York Yankees are not surprisingly a team that wants to act as buyers, not sellers, as we near the MLB trade deadline.

With that in mind, it should not come as a surprise to hear the Yankees have interest in Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs. Soriano has been hot as of late and may accept a trad to a contender after he failed to do so last year on a deal that would have shipped him to the San Francisco Giants.

Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports the Yankees could be looking at making an offer for Soriano.

Of course, Soriano still has a massive $25 million left on his deal, so whether or not a deal gets done between now and the deadline is hard to tell.

The Yankees are clearly interested in bringing on more bats, which is a great idea considering the conditions of Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. Soriano would presumably accept a trade to New York just on the chance to play for a World Series title.

Stay tuned.
