At the end of the 2013 college football season, the BCS will be no more and the College Football Playoff will begin to take center stage. To make their impact felt, the new national champion will be crowned in 2014 with a brand new trophy that will be unveiled at some point before the start of next season. As a result, the crystal ball will be no more.

The news comes from Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News:

There is no word on what the trophy may look like, but with the recent trends in college football it may be appropriate to slap a Southeastern Conference logo on that sucker.

It will be sad to see the crystal ball go, but if that’s what we need to sacrifice in order to have a college football playoff, then so be it.
