Spurs withdraw qualifying offer to Gary Neal

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the San Antonio Spurs are withdrawing their qualifying offer to Gary Neal. That means Neal is now an unrestricted free agent.

Neal was a reserve guard for the Spurs last season and averaged 9.5 points a game in 68 games. But he played a bigger role for the Spurs in the NBA Finals.

As a restricted free agent, Neal was slow to get offers because teams were worried about what the Spurs would do. They could match the offer and force a sign and trade. Now that he is an unrestricted free agent he surely will see the action in free agency pick up for him.

As guards have been scooped up a team will make an offer quickly to Neal.
