Toronto Raptors young center Jonas Valanciuans has been named MVP of the Summer League. The big man averaged 18.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. He was forced to sit out the last couple of games due to a finger injury, but looked very impressive when he was on the floor.
If you’re not a fan of pretty numbers, the eye test really did the trick when watching Valanciunas perform in the Summer League. He looked a lot stronger than before but maintained that agility and quick movement off the ball that had a lot of people excited during his rookie year. He was rebounding, scoring and playing great interior defense against the lesser competition.
But Valanciunas’ hectic summer will continue, as he will be joining the Lithuanian national team in its preparations for the FIBA EuroBasket 2013 in Slovenia.
The Lithuanian center will leave Vegas after leaving a strong impression and if Toronto fans were not excited about the 21-year-old’s upside, they certainly should be now.
