The gangster from West Linn, Oregon is returning to the UFC middleweight division. During his hosting gig on FUEL TV’s UFC Tonight, Sonnen touched on a number of topics that included his plans following his upcoming fight with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Sonnen stated that he would be dropping back down the 185-pounds, where he had two title shots, and relocating his training camp for upcoming fights.
“I’ll return to middleweight after beating Shogun,” said Sonnen. “There’re two guys I want to get matched up with: Vitor Belfort, because he’s awesome and he’s on an incredible roll. And Wanderlei Silva, who I’ve heard is going back to middleweight. The landscape has completely changed. I’ve got a new contract and I’m returning to the weight class.”
Sonnen also touched on his relocation for training camp moving forward in his career.
“I’ve moved to Southern California and am training at Reign with Mark Munoz. My new contract, which is a five-fight deal, was finalized today,” he added.
This all comes following a new five-fight contract with the promotion.
Wherever Sonnen fights, he always is out to give the fans a show, so whether he is fighting at middleweight or light-heavyweight is irrelevant. He will simply entertain.
