According to Evan Drellich of MassLive.com, the Boston Red Sox will have a scout in Detroit for Jake Peavy’s next start against the Detroit Tigers.

The Red Sox also had a scout in attendance after Peavy made his return from a rib fracture on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves. Right now the Red Sox are considering Jake Peavy being a possible trade option, since they have no time table return for Clay Bucholz.

Peavy is the best starting pitcher available right now, now that Matt Garza was recently dealt to the Texas Rangers. The non-waiver trade deadline is July 31st, so a deal between both teams could be done over the weekend of the Red Sox are impressed with the outing Peavy has against the Tigers.

The 32 year old right handed pitcher is under contract of $14.5 million next season while his contract includes a conditional $15 million player option for 2015. I think despite what happens on Thursday, unless Peavy is injured again, the Red Sox will put together some sort of deal that will impress the Chicago White Sox enough to deal the veteran right hander to them.
