Bryant McKinnie weight issues keeping him off the field
By Josh Sanchez
Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie is no stranger to weight issues, but he seemed to have everything under control in June during the team’s minicamps. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had nothing but praise for McKinnie’s weight and conditioning, however, McKinnie must have gone on an eating spree between then and the start of training camp.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, McKinnie reported to camp overweight and Harbaugh did not feel comfortable having him on the practice field because he “is too heavy right now”.
“I’m not sure who’s more disappointed Bryant or I,” Harbaugh said. “There’s an issue but we’re going to get it fixed.”
McKinnie’s conditioning was an issue at the start of Ravens camp last season, so the fact that these issues are coming up again come as no surprise — especially when the weight problems date back to his time with the Minnesota Vikings.
It isn’t a huge concern, however, so the Ravens and their fans can expect McKinnie back at left tackle in the not too distant future.
