The United States men’s national team stormed past Honduras in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal match up at Cowboys Stadium thanks to two goals by star forward Landon Donovan. The USMNT jumped out to a very early one goal lead, but it didn’t take long for Donovan to strike and help the American’s pull away with two goals to finish the game. When it was all said and done, the United States advanced with a 3-1 victory.
Scoring opened after a beautiful Eddie Johnson run and finish. Johnson pulled the defender out of position before receiving a pass from Donovan and taking it all the way to the box before sailing it in to the back of the net over the Honduran keeper.
Donovan added to the United States’ lead with a goal just before the half hour mark.
After Honduras came within one goal following a free kick, Donovan came through again for the USMNT and delivered the dagger that sent the United States advancing to the Gold Cup final.
The Gold Cup final will take place on Sunday, July 28 with the United States taking on Panama.
