It’s been a wonderful few weeks for Dwight Buycks.
The undrafted player out of Marquette who spent a few seasons lurking around in Europe along with a stint in the NBDL was awarded the Toronto Raptors backup point guard duties even before the Las Vegas Summer League began. But that didn’t stop the former NBDL All-Rookie team award winner from putting in work.
After a solid Orlando Summer League, Buycks participated in Vegas where he lead the league not only in points but assists as well. It was an impressive showing, one that caught the eye of Raptors head coach Dwane Casey.
Per Ryan Wolstat:
Casey said he’s impressed by Dwight Buycks, excited to add him to team.
Normally that would simply be coach speak but Buycks has been nothing short of impressive this Summer and looks poised to make an impact on the Raptors roster during the 2013-14 season.
Buycks averaged 15.1 points, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals on 49.7 percent shooting during his time in the D-League in 2012.
He was also voted as the top AAU player in Wisconsin during his senior season in high school, but opted to stay local and attend junior college before becoming the sixth man at Marquette University.
