Los Angeles Angels likely to place Albert Pujols on disabled list

No more than an hour after suggesting that he would play through the foot pain, it appears Albert Pujols will be placed on the disabled list by the Los Angeles Angels.

Pujols is currently en-route back to Southern California to see a specialist for his foot, this according to Mike DiGiovanna.

#Angels DH Albert Pujols has returned to SoCal to be evaluated. Re-injured L foot Fri night. Doesn’t look good. Out for a while.

My take on Pujols from covering Scioscia for many years. By way #Angels MGR spoke today, Albert appears headed for DL.

Albert has dealt with nagging foot injuries for nearly a decade but the pain generally subsided or went away completely but the last two years, the pain has lingered.

It’s a big blow for the Angels as Pujols, who has been in a funk for the entire season was recently turning around his play despite the injury.

There’s no word on if the Angels will try to avoid the disabled list with a bit of rest, but currently 11 games out in the American League West and 8.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, time isn’t on their side.
