Twins Mike and Maurkice Pouncey caused quite a stir when they were photographed wearing hats that said “Free Hernandez” after he was arrested in connection with a homicide. Steelers’ Maurkice Pouncey was quick to apologize but his twin brother Mike of the Miami Dolphins has been very quiet.
“I talked to Mike, and his team handled this situation a lot different than (the Steelers) did,” Maurkice told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I’m sure Mike wanted to apologize, but that’s how they handled it.”
Head coach Mike Tomlin sat down with Maurkice and discussed the hat.
“I’ll keep that between he and I,” Tomlin said. “Obviously, like all situations when I’m dealing with guys (about topics) unrelated to performance, I think that’s appropriate.”
Maurkice is looking to become a leader and that is the reason he stepped up and was accountable for his actions.
“I think manning up to the things you do is always important in any man with any position in life,” Pouncey said. “I think I came out here and did that in front of everybody. I think it’ll mean lot to everybody in Pittsburgh and all around the country.”
“The torch has been passed to me, especially the older guys who have helped me along the way. We’ll see how things turn out this year.”
