MLB trade rumors 2013: San Francisco Giants will listen to offers for Hunter Pence

The San Francisco Giants reportedly would like to keep Hunter Pence long term, but they know the market is weak and Pence could be a valuable asset so they’re willing to listen, this according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Didn’t get this on pre-game. #SFGiants will listen on Pence. Club officials believe in current position, they have to listen to everything.

#SFGiants like Pence and need Pence. Want to keep him long-term. But given poor quality of hitters available, team may get a strong return.

Pence, who is a free agent at season end has stated multiple times that he’d like to remain in San Francisco and the feeling in pretty mutual. Though, as Rosenthal suggests, the Giants could end up getting a very solid return for Pence which has given them enough reason to listen to potential offers.

The Giants can buy out Barry Zito‘s contract at season end and both Pence and Tim Lincecum are set to become free agents, so the reigning World Champions could opt to re-tool with their available cash if they move on from Pence.
