Sacramento Kings have met with DeMarcus Cousins about contract extension

Yesterday it was reported that the Sacramento Kings and the representation for DeMarcus Cousins were expected to meet in the coming days in regards to contract extension, however, now it’s being reported that both sides have already met – multiple times.

Per Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee:

I’m told DeMarcus Cousins’ reps met with Kings multiple times in Vegas. Kings making it clear Cousins is a top priority.

Cousins of course was in Las Vegas for Team USA’s practice and was spotted on multiple occasions speaking and laughing with new Kings owner, Vivek Ranadive.

There’s really not a ton of contractual wiggle room for the Kings who would most likely need to offer Cousins a maximum five year, $80 million dollar deal to retain the big man. Of course, they may still need to sell Cousins on Sacramento despite his public support of the franchise.

A versatile talent, Cousins has the ability to be a franchise cornerstone assuming he keeps his head on straight – something the new Kings ownership is apparently willing to take a gamble on.
