Samuel Deeds 400: Danica Patrick qualifies 33rd

Danica Patrick didn’t have the strongest of qualifying runs for Sunday’s Samuel Deeds 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but the 31-year-old driver certainly won the media portion of the day.

When asked to compare the experience of driving an IndyCar versus a stock car on the legendary track, Patrick said her best advice is to “grab your gonads and go for it,” a response that evidently cracked up the media members in the room (proving once and for all that no matter your level of professionalism, the word “gonad” will always be funny).

Patrick went on to talk more about the track:

I always like coming here. As I’ve said before, many times, it’s a special place. It makes me happy to be here. I feel very comfortable, but at the same time, I’m working on a new car and working on making it handle well and like I want it to and also building up the confidence to do what you can in a Cup car here.

Ryan Newman qualified in pole position, setting a track record in the process.
