While teams like the St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly offering high quality talent in exchange for Chicago White Sox’s starter Jake Peavy, it apparently isn’t enough. Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com is hearing that the Oakland Athletics have moved into the catbird seat and are in the lead for Peavy’s services.
#WhiteSox source has Oakland #Athletics in front of Jake Peavy sweepstakes. Peavy brought extra bags on trip in case, per @JJStankevitz.
Hayes mentions that he’s not aware of what pieces would be returning to Chicago, if any move is made.
ESPN’s Buster Olney also suggested earlier today that he feels the Athletics are the favorite to land Peavy.
It’s a bit of an unconventional move for the normally fiscal Athletics who try to watch every penny. The White Sox’s arm is due $14.5 million next season and has a incentive laden option in 2015 worth $15 million dollars, not to mention the remaining portion of his $14.5 million due this season.
Peavy himself expects to be moved in the coming days as he has packed an additional three suitcases for the White Sox’s upcoming road trip.
