MLB trade rumors 2013: Seattle Mariners interested in San Diego Padres Kyle Blanks

A powerful first baseman/sub-par outfielder who struggles to stay on the field and doesn’t hit for average. It’s not exactly something you’d expect the Seattle Mariners to have interest in considering their roster already has a few players who’d meet a similar criteria, but apparently it’s what they’re looking for.

According to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Mariners have reached out to the San Diego Padres about a trade that would involve the powerful Kyle Blanks:

… have interest in #Padres OF/1B Kyle Blanks. The problem: Blanks is not close to returning from tendinitis in both Achilles. #Mariners

As Rosenthal says, Blanks is injured (something that seems to happen frequently) and wouldn’t be of much use this season so the Mariners could be looking towards the future.

Both Kendrys Morales and Michael Morse (both more talented but owners of similar skill sets to Blanks) have been rumored to be trade targets from a variety of teams so the M’s may be looking to restock their arsenal with Blanks, assuming they move either Morales or Morse.
