The Miami Dolphins held their annual scrimmage at Sun Life Stadium tonight, and Ryan Tannehill takes home the proverbial game ball with three touchdown passes, two of them caught by his tight ends.
James Walker, ESPN’s AFC East blogger that covered the event, was impressed by the quarterback’s performance.
The top two plays of the night go to Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill connecting with his tight ends. First, Tannehill made a nice 24-yard connection to fullback/tight end Charles Clay for a touchdown.
Clay got open over the middle, caught the ball in stride and rumbled past safety Jimmy Wilson for the touchdown. Tannehill also connected with starting tight end Dustin Keller on the sideline for an impressive 14-yard touchdown reception.
Tannehill’s third touchdown pass was to Daniel Thomas.
Other notes from Walker in his coverage includes:
- Two starting receivers, Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace, did not play.
- Running back Mike Gillislee started off well but then “fumbled on a run up the middle late,” and it was cited as a rookie mistake.
- Dion Jordan, the team’s third overall pick, “registered a sack on backup quarterback Pat Devlin.”
- Fan turnout was better than expected with 22,876 showing up to the stadium.
