The San Antonio Spurs have been playing hardball with restricted free agent DeJuan Blair. Multiple teams have expressed interest in the power forward and have offered the Spurs a handful of sign-and-trade scenarios, but the interest has only been one sided as San Antonio continues to rebuff the offers.
The reluctance to make a move has clearly frustrated Blair, who wants to play and has fallen out of favor with the Spurs.
Enter the Dallas Mavericks, who according to ESPN’s Marc Stein are in ‘serious’ talks to sign the former University of Pittsburgh star:
Surprise development in Mavs’ big man search: Hearing Dallas in serious talks on signing DeJuan Blair. Told deal looks “promising”
Blair again is a restricted free agent so San Antonio will have the right to match any offer Dallas makes, though, that seems unlikely given the Spurs’ relatively lofty payroll and Blair’s lack of a role with the squad.
Stein also mentions that the Mavericks are one of the teams who still could potentially sign Greg Oden, so any deal with Blair could potentially hinge on what happens with Oden.
