In the market for starting pitching, the Baltimore Orioles recently contacted the Los Angeles Angles about Jason Vargas, this according to Danny Knobler.
Per CBS Sports:
The Orioles have already traded for two pitchers this month, but they believe they may need more to keep up with the Rays and Red Sox in the AL East.
Orioles people have been asking around about starting pitchers, with Jason Vargas of the Angels one interesting possibility. Vargas has been on the disabled list since June because of a blood clot in his left armpit, but the reports on his rehab have been encouraging and he could be ready to pitch in the major leagues sometime in August.
As Knobler mentions, Vargas is currently on the mend after undergoing surgery though he is expected back in the relatively near future.
An eight year veteran, Vargas is only signed through the season and it’s unlikely he’d return to the Angels so it’s possible Baltimore could be trying to snag the 31-year-old on the cheap for a September run.
