MLB trade deadline 2013: Atlanta Braves tried to trade for New York Yankees Phil Hughes

The New York Yankees did not hide their willingness to part with arms like Phil Hughes and did their best to send him to the Atlanta Braves, but according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, the two sides simply couldn’t strike a deal.

Per Sherman:

Heard #Braves talked to #Yankees about Hughes, but doesn’t look like will happen

The Braves have been interested in an arm for weeks and that desire grew stronger when Tim Hudson went down with a season ending injury. Multiple reports linked the Braves to Bud Norris of the Houston Astros, but earlier today it was hinted there was never much interest in such a deal from the Braves standpoint.

Atlanta did however have interest in Phil Hughes, but unfortunately for both the Braves and the Yankees the prospects didn’t match up.

With the deadline now passed, it appears that Atlanta will continue on with their solid though somewhat dinged up rotation while the Yankees will keep Hughes in pinstripes.
