MLB trade deadline 2013: Pittsburgh Pirates tried to trade for Los Angeles Angels Mark Trumbo

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been doing their due diligence on finding a power bat but it appears they may come up short as the MLB’s trade deadline comes to a close.

CBS’ Jon Heyman is reporting the Pirates tried their hardest to acquire hard hitting first baseman Mark Trumbo from the Los Angeles Angels, though, simply could not get a deal done:

An acquisition of Trumbo would have been a major move from the Pirates who currently have the best record in baseball.

The Angels were reportedly wary of moving Trumbo given the health concerns of Albert Pujols as it’s likely he’ll play out the remainder of his hefty contract as a designated hitter.

There was no word of what prospects the Pirates were offering the Angels who were reluctant to become a seller, especially for somebody like Trumbo.

The 27 year old slugger is under team control through the 2016 season and has proven himself to be quite the valuable asset.
