MLB trade deadline 2013: Texas Rangers continue to ask Toronto Blue Jays for Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion

With Lance Berkman expected to retire (or at the least, be essentially of no value the rest of the season) and Nelson Cruz facing a suspension for his inclusion in the Biogenesis scandal, the Texas Rangers are determined to pick up a power bat and few players intrigue them more than that of Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Texas, who has apparently attempted to acquire almost every power bat in the league has been trying to trade for either of the sluggers for a few weeks now but were continually rebuffed by the Blue Jays.

Now, as the deadline is just a few hours away, the Rangers are still trying to trade for one of the power bats but the Blue Jays continue to say no, despite the Rangers willingness to offer up high level prospects.

Per CBS’ Danny Knobler:

Rangers have continued to ask about Encarnacion and Bautista, but still appears that Blue Jays won’t trade either one.

There has been no word on who exactly the Rangers are offering, just reports that there aren’t too many players off limits.
