While Javier Lopez has become a fan favorite in San Francisco, from a pure baseball standpoint there is little reason not to trade the talented though aging left hander.

In the final year of his contract, Lopez, essentially a specialist, could command a solid return in a thin reliever market – something the Giants are well aware of.

Multiple reports have suggested the Giants are wanting near Major League ready talent in exchange for Lopez but that hasn’t stopped the Detroit Tigers from continuing their pursuit of the sidearmer.

Per Danny Knobler of CBS:

Even after making 2 big trades last 2 days, Tigers may not be done. Still talking to Giants about LH Javier Lopez.

Earlier this morning San Francisco Giants beat writer Henry Shulman hinted that all was relatively quiet on their front, but of course things can get quite busy very quickly.

Lopez, despite his age, has been extremely effective for this year and could be a huge asset for the Tigers down the stretch if the two clubs are able to come to an agreement.
