Despite missing out on Jake Peavy, the Arizona Diamondbacks are still in the market for starting pitching. They’re also in the market to trade starting pitching, odd as that sounds.
While Arizona general manager Kevin Towers continues to scan the market for another arm, they have apparently tired of Ian Kennedy, who they are open to moving. Both the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels have sent offers to the D’Backs, which they are currently mulling over according to Jon Heyman:
even w/o chance for peavy,
#dbacks still considering offers for ian kennedy. #angels, #padres in. LAA would love him.
Arizona has a handful of talented starting pitchers in the minors who are ready to make the jump to the big show, so moving Kennedy would clear a much needed open space. In addition, it’s possible the D’Backs could secure a player to help them make a run at the 2013 National League West crown as Kennedy has an ugly 5.23 ERA this season and isn’t exactly being much of a help.
