The Texas Rangers have been attempting to acquire a big bat in recent weeks, fully aware that current big bopper Nelson Cruz is facing a suspension stemming from the Biogenesis case. However, despite the Rangers continued efforts, they’ve struggled to find a bat to replace Cruz and now it’s being reported by the New York Post that Cruz may appeal the suspension, which is expected to be handed down Friday.

Per Joel Sherman:

Hearing A-Rod might not be alone, there is some potential Nelson Cruz also might appeal a Biogenesis suspension #Rangers

Cruz along with most other players involved in the scandal (outside of Alex Rodriguez) were expected to accept the suspension but now that might be changing, especially if the Rangers are unable to secure the needed bat they’re looking for this afternoon.

It would certainly be helpful to the Rangers postseason run if Cruz did stay on the field, but Cruz, who will be a free agent at season end would be taking a pretty large risk by not accepting the suspension.
