The Dallas Cowboys have Wednesday off and the Cowboys tried to give Tony Romo Tuesday off as well so that he’d have consecutive days off. But like a true competitor, Romo managed to find his way on the field.

“We’re trying to be real smart with him, and he knows that,” quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said, via ESPN Dallas. “He didn’t overdo anything today and he gets a full day off tomorrow. He is an aggressive personality when it comes to doing his part, though.”

Romo missed much of the offseason after a surgery to remove a cyst on his back so he is still trying to get acclimated with his teammates. He is also working with a new center, Cowboys first round draft pick Travis Frederick.

“I think he’s gotten better every day,” Wilson said. “I think initially there was a little bit of rust and dealing with the speed, but he missed the whole spring, but now he’s playing well.”

The Dallas Cowboys have a fifth and extra preseason game since they are playing in the Hall of Fame game against the Miami Dolphins. That has led the Cowboys brass to say they’ll hold Romo out of competition, but he’s fighting to make his way into that game as well.
