The Florida Gators are without their starting quarterback Jeff Driskel for at least the next two weeks and now they will be without their running back Matt Jones. Unfortunately for the team, there are plenty of questions surrounding Jones’ availability moving forward.

There is no set timetable for Jones’ return as he deals with what head coach Will Muschamp calls a “serious viral infection.”

“We’re filling [Jones] full of antibiotics and how his body responds will tell me how quickly he can come back,” Muschamp said. He added that the team won’t know “until the end of next week” what the timetable for his return would be.

It will be a big loss for the Gators if Jones misses extended time.

Throughout the spring practices, Jones was one of the team’s standout players and there was plenty of buzz about his potential heading in to the year.

As a freshman last year, Jones totaled 275 yards and three touchdowns. He was set to take a bigger role as a sophomore.

Hopefully for the Gators, “indefinitely” will not turn in to “out for the season.”
