New York Mets Josh Edgin to the disabled list, Bobby Parnell unavailable vs Royals
By David Miniel
The New York Mets have placed left handed pitcher Josh Edgin on the 15 day disabled list, retroactive to July 30th, with a stress fracture in his ribs.
A tough tough break for Edgin who has had an outstanding ERA of 0.93 in 23 appearances since returning from the minors in June. There is no word yet on how long Edgin will be out, but it may be awhile. The Mets haven’t announced a corresponding move yet, but could be announced sometime later today.
In other injury related news for the Mets, Jorge Castillo tweeted that Bobby Parnell will be unavailable today and tomorrow against the Kansas City Royals.
Parnell hasn’t pitched since Tuesday due to a stiff neck. He was given medication after seeing a doctor and has a re-evaluation scheduled for Monday. There is a chance he could pitch on Sunday, but that may be a slim chance as the team may want him to wait until they find out what the doctor has to say.
Parnell has a good ERA of his own, posting a 2.16 ERA this season, with 22 saves in 50 innings pitched, holding a 5-5 record.
Manager Terry Collins figures to play the match-ups during his absence with LaTroy Hawkins and David Aardsma most likely to get save opportunities.
