Despite playing one of the faster paces in the NBA last year, the Phoenix Suns were dreadful on offense, averaging just 95 points per game.
With a somewhat re-tooled roster and a new front office, there is reason for optimism in the Valley of the Sun, starting with first time head coach Jeff Hornacek who says he feels the Suns will score over 103 points per game this year:
“What did we average last year? (It was 95.2 by the way) Over 102.9, we would hope we can get there. If we can get there I think that’s a good start for us in our first year. So, hopefully, I would say yes.”
The 102.9 mark is a pretty lofty goal for any team, let alone the Suns who despite adding some new talent this year will probably be among one of the league’s worst teams.
Only four teams (Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs) averaged 103 points per game last year, five if you want to include the Miami Heat who scored 102.9.
The Suns’ 95.2 point per game last year ranked 20th in the league.
