Last year, Melky Cabrera was on top of the world. He was having an MVP-type first half of the season. He was an All-Star. He had become a fan favorite in San Francisco with the Giants and it looked like he and the team would coast into the postseason with relative ease. The Giants had just acquired Hunter Pence who would sandwich himself between Cabrera and the eventual National League MVP Buster Posey in the lineup to create one of the most feared combinations in the league.

For one game, Giant fans were able to see that dream. Then, out of the blue, that vaulted world crumbled as Cabrera was busted for performance enhancing drugs.

Few teams wanted to touch Cabrera in free agency but the Toronto Blue Jays felt he was worth the risk, signing the outfielder to a two year, $16 million dollar deal – something they’re probably regretting right now.

The Melk Man has spent quite a bit of time on the bench this season, nursing multiple injuries and now it’s being reported Cabrera has torn his meniscus.

Per Jim Bowden:

"Alex Anthopoulos #BlueJays GM told us today that Melky Cabrera has a meniscus tear in his left knee…hamstring/knee injuries all year XM 89"

Even when Melky has been on the field, the results have been terrible.

In 88 games, the Dominican native has hit .279 with 3 home runs and 30 RBI through 344 at-bat’s, not exactly the numbers you’re hoping for from a guy making $8+ million a season.
