Although the results haven’t really been that good, Dan Carpenter has become somewhat of a staple with the Miami Dolphins.

Carpenter has spent the last five seasons (his entire career) in South Beach but that could be ending in the very near future as it’s being reported that Caleb Sturgis is reportedly over his groin injury and kicking well:

K Dan Carpenter: He’s been solid during camp, but is struggling with field goals in the 47-50-yard range. Rookie Caleb Sturgis has recovered from his groin injury and remains the front runner because of the financial ramifications that come with keeping Carpenter.

It’s pretty unusual for a team to waste a draft pick on a kicker so letting Sturgis go (outside of a complete meltdown) seems unlikely.

Carpenter, outside of 2009 has been relatively average in accuracy and the Fins may be looking for a change of pace with Sturgis. The former University of Florida kicker holds multiple school records and also averaged 64.4 yards per kickoff during his tenure at Florida.
