New York Mets place David Wright on disabled list
By Bryan Rose
The New York Mets, after blowing their lead late, were able to come back and defeat the Kansas City Royals in an extra innings affair, though it was a costly victory.
During the 10th inning, Mets All-Star third baseman David Wright came up lame, re-injuring a nagging hamstring pull. That injury will leave him on the shelf for at least two weeks now as the Mets placed him on the disabled list this morning.
"The Mets made the move Saturday, one day after Wright gingerly left the field in the 10th inning of New York’s 4-2 win over the Kansas City Royals. Wright, who had been dealing with what was called cramping in his hamstring for a few days, strained it when he legged out an infield hit on Friday. He offered little resistance when he was removed from the game after being attended to behind first base."
Wright has been one of the few bright spots in a somewhat dim year for the Mets who sit in fourth place in the National League East division.
Scheduled to take his place is utility man Justin Turner, while the Mets recalled Mike Baxter to take Wright’s roster spot.
