New ‘Doctor Who’ is Peter Capaldi

During a live broadcast on BBC America, it was announced that the newest Dr. Who would be Peter Capaldi, who has been a lifelong fan of the show. Capaldi becomes the 12th British actor to play the role, which is a major hit in the British market.

“It’s so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer,” said Capaldi. “I haven’t played Doctor Who since I was 9 on the playground.”

The shows executive producer Steven Moffat says that he has been considering Capaldi for the job for awhile, but the time was finally right and everything fell together.

“There comes a right time for the right person to play it,” he said. “We all had the same idea and it was a quite different idea.”

Moffat added that he and his team shot a video with Capaldi and that was all it took to get everyone on board. Moffat said ”everybody saw it and was like, ‘That’s the Doctor.’ ”

The first appearance for Capaldi as the sci-fi icon will come in the Doctor Who Christmas Special at the end of 2013.
