Ryan Vogelsong to start Friday for San Francisco Giants

Despite earlier reports that Ryan Vogelsong may make another minor league start, it’s now reported that the right-handed starter will make his this week.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle said on Twitter that Vogelsong was told he was going to be activated and will start on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles.

On Sunday, Giants manager Bruce Bochy was mulling over giving Vogelsong another start in the minor league. A start with Triple-A Iowa for Friday night was in the cards, but instead he’ll be starting for the Giants after convincing them he was ready.

Vogelsong may have a rather high 7.19 earned run average, but did improve right before exiting with a hand injury against the Washington Nationals on May 20th. He pitched five innings, giving up just three hits, and was good enough to hold on for just his second win of the season.

He’ll be a welcome addition to a rotation that has struggled to gain consistency most of the season.
