New York Jets RB Chris Ivory says he’ll sit out Friday
By Mike Dyce
The New York Jets face off agains the Detroit Lions this Friday in the preseason. New running back Chris Ivory says he won’t play due to a lingering and nagging hamstring injury.
“I probably won’t play this Friday, but definitely next week, Monday or Tuesday,” Ivory told the New York Daily News. “(By) Tuesday, I’ll definitely be full speed.”
“I’ll be back soon full-time. I’m almost there.”
Ivory’s injury coupled with Joe McKnight’s head injury and the absent Mike Goodson has led to an increase in reps for Bilal Powell. The fear is that Powell could be getting overworked with those three out.
McKnight was also arrested at the end of July for unpaid tickets, head coach Rex Ryan wouldn’t comment on the arrest though.
“We’re aware of it,” Ryan said.
The situation, especially with Ivory, is frustrating Ryan however.
“You’re kind of frustrated a little bit because you want to see big Chris get it going,” Ryan said, via the New York Post. “But hey, he’s had a hamstring. When the trainers clear him, he’ll be ready to roll. He’s champing at the bit to get out there. He’s working extremely hard.”
Powell is embracing the opportunity however.
“I’m trying to take advantage of every opportunity I’m given and go hard and just stay focused.”
